This semester marks four years since I stopped teaching high school classes. That means that, in just a few months, nearly all of the students that I would have taught have now graduated.
I never got to say goodbye to my students. I had to leave rather suddenly and only had the opportunity to talk to one or two before I left. I didn't like the way that I left teaching, especially as I taught for so short of a period.
I think I had a good influence on my students. A few reached out here and there to let me know when they got accepted to college or similar big academic events. Several have indeed gone to much more prestigious institutions than I went to for undergraduate, and I hope I had a hand in both academically and socially preparing them to do so, even if it was only for a brief period.
I don't know if any of you will read this, but just in case: happy graduation, to all of you who have yet to graduate, and those who have already done so. I hope I shaped your lives as much as you influenced mine, and I couldn't be prouder of all of you.
